Embracing Human-Centric Leadership: Putting People First

Leaders are one of the most important driving forces behind an organisation’s success. Their influence directly impacts the motivation, satisfaction, and performance of employees.

This year we’ve seen just how much leaders have needed to adapt in order to keep up with the changing nature of work. Market turbulence, social factors and remote, flexible working are redefining employee expectations and standards of their managers and leaders. This has a direct impact on retention and attraction, which becomes even more important for organisations when talent is already scarce, expensive, and competition is at an all-time high.

Organisations must equip and support their leaders to create a positive culture that enhances employee experience by taking a human-centric leadership approach. This philosophy is all about putting people first and making work more meaningful. It pushes leaders away from a leader-employee relationship dynamic to a human-to-human one. It means shifting the focus from professional to personal, employees to people, and standardised to individualised.

There is never a one-size-fits-all approach, and managing change can often be complex and overwhelming. Our Source HR team partners with our clients to review their leadership styles and how they relate to their business goals, processes, structure, and workforce. We work with them to enhance the alignment between people and strategy, by providing tools and resources tailored to their current and future needs. We guide, coach and support leaders to help shift their mindset and drive their culture towards human-centric leadership.

We take a leaf out of our own book here at Source, where we have an environment that focuses on our people experience (Px). Our leaders are authentic, acting with purpose to enable our true self-expression; they are empathetic, showing genuine care, respect, and concern for our wellbeing; and they are adaptive, enabling flexibility and support that fits each of our unique wants and needs. This fosters a positive atmosphere where we feel safe, respected, and understood.

Proactively understanding and aligning your leaders with your employees is so important. A strong and supportive leader can make or break a healthy work environment. When employees feel valued, heard and empowered, they are more engaged, innovative, and resilient.
