Legal Counsel - Employment & Safety

Renee has over 5 years’ experience advising across employment and safety law issues. Renee’s safety work sees her involved in a broad range of matters including advising on legislative compliance, the management of workplace incidents including fatalities, coronial inquiries, and Work Health and Safety (WHS) prosecutions. Renee also assists clients in responding to regulatory investigations.

“I am focused on providing clients with practical solutions tailored to individual needs. To do this, I invest time in understanding my client’s business – the nature of their operations, broader organisational objectives and their risk profile – as well as industry nuances.” 

 

Industry and career experience

Renee’s employment work involves advising clients on the management of employees (e.g. performance, conduct and capacity issues and disciplinary processes), unfair dismissal claims, award classification and coverage, and the conduct of workplace investigations. Renee also has experience drafting and advising on employment contracts, contractor agreements, policies and procedures, and post employment restraints.

Renee has worked with a number of public and private clients across a variety of sectors including:

  • Mining
  • Utilities and Resources
  • Health
  • Education

 

Prior to joining Source, Renee worked as a solicitor at Baker McKenzie in Sydney and Sparke Helmore Lawyers in Newcastle.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws (Honours) – University of Newcastle
  • Bachelor of Social Science (Human Resources and Industrial Relations major) – University of Newcastle
  • Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice – University of Newcastle
